Automation Upgrade for Sewage Treatment Plants – Dukhan Emiri Airbase, Qatar
As part of a strategic initiative to modernize wastewater infrastructure and reduce operational dependency on manual intervention, we successfully completed the engineering, redesign, and automation upgrade of five sewage treatment plants at the Dukhan Emiri Airbase in Qatar. The project was executed in two phases, focusing on full system automation and remote operability.
1. Engineering Redesign of Control Panels & I/O Architecture
• Re-engineered the existing control panels to accommodate modern automation standards
• Optimized I/O mapping for efficient signal routing and future scalability
• Integrated safety interlocks and diagnostic indicators for enhanced reliability
2. Supply & Installation of PLCs and Field Sensors
• Supplied and installed advanced Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) tailored to each plant’s process requirements
• Deployed a wide range of field sensors (level, flow, pressure, pH, DO) to enable real-time process monitoring
• Ensured all components met industrial-grade specifications for harsh environmental conditions
3. Interface Programming & System Configuration
• Developed custom PLC logic for unmanned automatic operation, including sequencing, alarms, and fail-safes
• Configured communication protocols for seamless integration with SCADA and remote monitoring systems
• Conducted simulation-based testing to validate logic under various load and fault scenarios
4. Commissioning & Handover
• Performed site-wide testing of all five plants to ensure synchronized operation and data integrity
• Delivered comprehensive documentation, operator training, and post-commissioning support
• Achieved fully automated, unmanned operation across all five sewage treatment plants
• Improved process efficiency, fault detection, and energy optimization
• Enabled centralized monitoring and control, reducing manpower requirements and response time
• Delivered a future-ready automation platform aligned with Qatar’s sustainability and smart infrastructure goals
